Basic tax guide: Your company's first year
By buying you accept the terms of sale.
Have you just signed the deed of incorporation of your S.L. (Spanish limited company) and don't know what comes next? How much corporate income tax will your company pay, which books have to be legalised and when are the accounts filed? This guide explains it in plain language, with one example from start to finish: the first year of a small S.L., from the deed to the tax return in July.
What it includes
- 📄 6-page PDF guide (A4), from the ‘Basics’ series.
- 📊 ‘My company's first year’ spreadsheet (3 tabs): enter the date of the deed and of the year-end and you get every deadline of the first year; plus a corporate income tax calculator for the first financial year.
- 🇪🇸 Also in Spanish. The PDF and the spreadsheet, in English and in Spanish, in the same download.
What you will find
- The provisional and the definitive tax ID number, and registering with the Tax Agency on modelo 036 (tax registration form).
- Corporate income tax: the 15% rate for newly created companies (and when you don't count as one), and each year's rates, up to the final ones, for companies with a turnover below €1 million and below €10 million.
- Modelo 200 (corporate income tax return) in July, and why there are no instalment payments (modelo 202) in the first year.
- VAT and withholdings each quarter, in brief.
- The books: the journal, the inventory and annual accounts book, the minutes book and the register of shareholders, and legalising them online within 4 months of the year-end.
- The annual accounts: drawing them up, approving them at the general meeting, filing them, and the beneficial ownership declaration.
- The director's pay, on the tax side: the articles of association and the withholding.
- The full example, from profit to tax, and the most common mistakes.
